We are Microbead Free
Mia Tozer
At Urban Veda, we believe in the value of nature, which means always respecting our planet. Doing our bit to save the ocean, we never have and never will use plastic microbead in any of our products. We have been proud of this fact since Urban Veda was born, four and a half years ago, and are thrilled to hear that it is becoming more and more well known. Instead of plastic microbead, we use natural exfoliants of crushed walnut shell powder and volcanic pumice stone. We are proud to be accredited by the Good Scrub Guide, which demonstrates that we do not use microbeads.
What are microbeads?
Microbeads are small pieces of plastic, commonly found in skincare, bodycare and toothpaste.
Why are microbeads bad?
After using a facial scrub or toothpaste, the microbeads go down the plug hole and end up in the sea, as they are too small to be stopped by water filters. Microbeads are causing irreversible damage to the environment, with billions of indigestible pieces of plastic poisoning sea creatures. More than 280 marine species are known to ingest microbeads, and this is constantly increasing.
Microbeads are slowly yet fortunately being banned across the UK, and in various other places across the globe. This will reduce the plastic pollution and damage we are doing to our oceans. In the meantime, keep an eye out for products still using harmful plastic microbeads. Avoid these products in order to protect our sea creatures.
