During the colder months, if you have oily skin, it can be tempting to continue with a mattifying facial routine. Or do the opposite by using thick, heavy moisturisers. You might think that oily skin doesn’t need adapting to colder temperatures. In reality, neither of these tactics are any good when it comes to balancing oily skin and protecting it against the elements. Read on for your perfect skincare routine in the colder months.
Wash away the bacteria and dirt…
Whether morning or night, you need to start your routine off with a gentle cleanser to remove dirt and oil. This leads to clogged pores and excess sebum.
Our Daily Purifying Facial Wash, is full of Ayurvedic cold-pressed neem oil. Neem oil is an excellent antibacterial and antiseptic tonic to help treat blackheads and reduce excess sebum and oil. This face wash will help to remove any dirt, sweat and grime build-up – either from your busy day, or created during your evening’s sleep – without stripping your face of natural oils.
Natural oils regulate your face, and if you remove them entirely, your skin will ‘overcompensate’, exacerbating the issue. A few times a week, at night, try a facial exfoliator. Exfoliating too often can disturb your natural oils, but a gentle facial polish designed to remove impurities and dead skin cells will help prevent the pores from blocking and causing congestion.
Our Purifying Exfoliating Facial Polish is the perfect option for removing hardened, dead skin that the colder elements may cause, without disrupting the natural balance of your skin.
Create a ‘blank canvas’ for your skincare…
A toner is crucial for oily and combination skin during the winter months. A good toner can target breakouts and reduce the chance of any nasty breakouts rearing their ugly heads – by choosing a natural and hydrating toner supports the skins natural pH level and aids in promoting a balanced complexion.
Our Purifying Hydrating Toner hydrates oily/combination skin whilst simultaneously decongesting and detoxifying it, leaving you with a perfectly balanced ‘blank canvas’ to apply your next skincare steps to.
Even oily skin needs hydration…
Keeping oily skin hydrated is crucial for a happy, balanced complexion. Don’t fall for the false idea that oily skin doesn’t need hydration due to its excessive oils. Without hydration, your skin can lose some of its protective barrier. This in turn can causes your skin to over-produce oils. Instead, in the winter months apply lighter layers of hydration. Use a good day cream full of antioxidants, as well as antiseptic properties, to keep oily skin clear and spot free, but also plump and hydrated. Apply a thin layer of
the Purifying Day Cream to the entire face, let it sink in for a minute, and apply makeup on top.
The same theory about face cream applies at night – but you should use something ever so slightly richer.
Our Purifying Protecting Night Cream provides the same incredible hydrating yet decongesting effects as the day cream, but in a richer formula. When we sleep, we lose a lot of water from our skin due to hydration. So, a thicker night cream is crucial to maintain healthy hydrated skin throughout the night. Properly hydrating the skin at night will in turn keep excess oil at bay.
Oil on oil…
Finally – and possibly the most confusing item that an oily skincare routine needs – is a face oil. We know what you’re thinking: I’ve got oily skin, why would I possibly add more oil to it? By using oils on oily skin you will actually trick your skin into thinking it has already produced oil to hydrate itself, therefore producing less oil. Oil attracts oil – meaning that it dissolves the sebum, without disrupting the skin’s natural oils. Massage 2-3 drops of the
Purifying Facial Oil into the face and neck, by first patting the warmed oils from the finger tips into the skin. Then start massaging in circular motions to stimulate the circulation and help the oil penetrate the skins layers more deeply.
