Urban Veda was founded in October 2013 by Sheilesh Shah, so we thought we would ask our founder a few questions to get to know the brains behind the brand by meeting our founder.
What inspired Urban Veda?
My first inspiration was learning about ayurvedic plants, herbs and their amazing benefits to health and skincare regimes. Following the success of Ayumi, our initial Ayurvedic skin care brand. I felt that we could strive to create further advanced formulations using more bio active ingredients and enhance the products in terms of efficacy. For all types of skin and share the benefits of Ayurveda to consumers worldwide.
What exactly is Ayurveda?
It’s an ancient Indian health and wellbeing system. It has been around for over 5000 years and carries a profound body of knowledge for understanding ourselves within the laws of nature. According to Ayurveda, each individual (and in fact, all of nature) falls into one of five fundamental elements: space, air, fire, water and earth. These elements uniquely design each one of us, creating a distinct blueprint known as ‘doshas’.
How does skincare fit into all of this?
Knowing your dosha will help you to determine certain lifestyle choices that will benefit you – and this includes nutrition and skincare products. There are three main doshas: vata, pitta and kapha. The first step is to determine your dosha and then to start using a suitable skincare range to suit. Discover your dosha by completing our questionnaire -
Dosha Questionnaire.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Having a vision, working endlessly and seeing the end result as a final product. Following this, seeing it being appreciated by all clients, customers, buyers and writers. Finally, having a great team to achieve all my visions.
How do you juggle work with family life?
Now, this is extremely hard!! Balance between the two is very important, but most often, the scales tip to one side. Many additional hours are needed to catch up, whether it is family time or work, this is not just a 9-5 job. There should been 36 hours in a day to have a good balance, 12 hours work, 12 hours family time, 12 hours sleep!
