How to Balance your Lifestyle

How to live with Balance

When it comes to finding balance in your mind and body, we suggest turning to Ayurveda, where living in a balanced way is one of the core governing principles. Ayurveda is an ancient philosophy founded in India. It is based on a holistic outlook to life and living in balance in order to enjoy and maintain good health. Ayurveda means ‘the science of life’ and aims to establish and maintain homeostasis, which is a self-regulating balance. Ayurveda prescribes a series of rituals and practices that help you cultivate balance in your life. Moreover, Ayurveda believes that balance is not something that you find, but it is something that you must create. According to Ayurvedic principles, we are all born with a set of unique physical and mental energies or traits. When these traits, also known as doshas, are balanced we will have a healthy mind, body and spirit.

Ayurvedic rituals for creating stability in your life

  1. Try and go for a walk once a day. Ayurveda views walking as a tri-doshic exercise. Meaning it is an activity that helps balance all three doshas without excessively straining your body. Incorporate a 30 minute walk into your daily routine as a calming Ayurvedic ritual, to help centre your mind, desobody and spirit.
  2. Eat a fresh lunch. When you eat frozen, canned and processed food it is harder for your body to digest and when eaten in bulk the chemical preservatives within processed food can create ama or toxins within your body, and cause an imbalance. We suggest making an effort to eat a clean, fresh and nourishing midday meal.
  3. Drink water. We know, it sounds simple. However, water flushes out a build-up of ama in your body. It also helps regulate and balance your digestive system.
  4. Take the time to massage your body. Take the time to rub body contouring massage oil into your skin once a day. It is an ancient Ayurvedic ritual known as Abhyanga. Abhyanga instils within your mind and body a sense of calm. And is essential in establishing and maintaining your skins natural oil balance.
  5. Go to sleep early. Ayurvedic philosophies emphasise and re-emphasise the importance of sleep. Sleep, and especially a lack of, is one of the core factors that can easily cause an imbalance in your body.
  6. Lastly, get up early. If we are being specific rise with the sun. This gives you time to prepare for your day and this extra bit of time helps you live a lifestyle that is filled with balancing Ayurvedic rituals.
